Live Video: An Authentic Way To Grow Your Business

Live video is one of the best ways to grow your business and the great thing is, it doesn’t have to be hard.

Everybody is wondering how to grow their business online and there are tons of tools and gimmicks all around us that claim to help.

If you are anything like me, you have thought that live video sounds great, but I’m sure you have ran into challenges with it. It can be intimidating and so I want to show you how it can be a huge asset and it it doesn’t have to be hard.

The first reason you should be doing live video: people want authenticity.

People want to see the authentic version of you…and they want to see the authentic version of your business also.

People don’t care about your big fancy facade.

I understand we have to be professional. We have to be clear with our image and with our brand. But people want to see behind the scenes of your business.

For me it’s been hard at times because you know, doing a video with a couple of lights, a professional camera, and a little bit of editing makes me feel comfortable. If I make a mistake, we can fix it or start over.

On a live video you probably will make a mistake and people want to see that. The authenticity of your marketing is really important in live video is one of the best ways to really show that authentic self.

Another thing we have to understand is that people don’t expect you to be perfect.

They care more about you showing up than about you being perfect.

When you go live, people have a different expectation than when they’re watching a movie in the theater. If I go to a theater and I see mistakes in a movie there, that’s not a good thing. I’m not going to think that movie as good.

People don’t have the same expectations with live video. I expect you to cough. I expect there to be some little tiny things. And that’s okay because live video is about authenticity.

Second reason you should do live video: platforms love it.

Facebook and Instagram (and Linkedin soon) love live video. There is a very real and practical piece of doing live video to get more exposure. As of right now, social media platforms are giving live videos more reach and that in and of itself is a reason to do it.

I am not going to be one to try and hack the algorithm but if there are things we know are getting more exposure and we are trying to get more exposure, we should probably try it out.

The last reason you should start live video: it gets easier every time.

You know, you can watch a bunch of youtube videos about live video and how to do it and how to get it perfect and all of this stuff. But eventually you’re just going to have to start.

For me, I realized I needed to get better at this and so I decided I was going to go live for 10 days straight and I invited a bunch of business owners to do it with me. I committed to doing it for 10 days straight and that commitment helped a ton because the first three days were easy…they were exciting…but by day four I wanted to be done.

Nobody would notice if I skipped a day, right?

But every day it got easier.

My encouragement to you is to start and know that it gets easier and easier as you go.

The goal here is to remove as much friction as we can between you having an idea for something you want to share with your audience and you hitting that record button.

People want to see your videos. They want to know more about your life and live video is one of the best ways in the quickest ways to be able to do that.

So try and commit to doing it imperfectly and be committed to not caring if it’s imperfect but commit to show up.
